1Very Poor Quality VideoSep 06, 2010
I got this camera for my birthday 3 years ago. I wish I had taken it back to the store immediately after the first time I downloaded a video. I shot a LOT of video before I downloaded anything, thanks to the large hard drive. After the first couple of videos came out so poorly, I thought I was doing something wrong. Then, I lost the user manual right away. I finally downloaded a manual from Panasonic for free. And I can't find anything to change the way the videos look, which is bad. I can shoot better video on my phone than this thing does. I don't understand why. They look good on the camera, when I transfer to my Mac, which is very easy, they look just ok. But when I export them to anything else, DVD, Facebook, whatever, the video looks like it was shot on a cheap cell phone. Switching from lowest to highest quality resolution makes no difference at all. To be honest, I don't know if the problem is with my Mac or the camcorder. Although, I've done some video on my Blackberry, transferred to the Mac and it is at least as good as the Panasonic. Not great quality, but you don't really expect it from a cell phone. I have been a poor consumer with this purchase because I didn't pursue any help while it was in warranty, now I'm afraid to put anymore money into it.

1DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERAMay 31, 2010
The video software that comes with it ONLY works with outdated computer operating systems...and Panasonic is NOT providing an upgraded version of the software. I purchased this camera 2 years ago for $600 and now have 2 years of video TRAPPED on it. The tech. support guy "understood my frustration" but was NO help at all. I will NEVER buy another Panasonic product again.

1If you buy this camcorder, you will live to regret it!Apr 27, 2010
If you buy this video camera you will live to regret it. We have all these lovely family videos that we shot on it's endless hard drive, but no way to upload it to any usable form. The camera itself is easy to use: takes great videos, takes stills at the flip of a button, everything seems hunky dory. BUT........when you go to convert it on your computer, you realize that all those wonderful videos are held captive in a very expensive doorstop! Panasonic gives you no choice but to use their horrible, horrible software Video Cam Suite. We have 3 computers: One with Windows XP home edition, one with Windows XP media edition, and a MAC. It is not compatible with any of these. I went to Best Buy today and they said to stay away from Panasonic. Wish I had heard that instead of the opposite advice when I purchased it. For what it's worth, they said that Canon is the one to buy, because Sony is not MAC friendly. Video shouldn't be this complicated. There should be some universal format like JPEG is for digital stills. (It's like the old BETA VS VHS format times 1000!)

4Good Value for the Money but Lacks Some FeaturesSep 17, 2009
I bought this camcorder for my wife for Christmas in 2008 to replace an old tape-based camcorder than was 5 years old. This one is much smaller (fits perfectly in an adult-sized hand) and represents a good value for the money. However, the picture quality of the still shots was a little disappointing and the video could be sharper. But considering it was half the cost of a comparable Hi-Def unit, that's to be expected. I was also surprised that it doesn't have a built-in light for shooting in low-light areas. Even our old camcorder had a light and I might not have purchased this unit had I known this prior to placing the order.

The 60GB internal HDD works great and even after 9 months of usage, we only managed to fill up 5% of the drive.

Lastly, I installed the included software recently only to find that it does not work with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Not a deal-breaker, because there's lot of other better alternatives, but I thought I should mention it for prospective buyers. Also, Panasonic might offer a new version that's compatible with Windows 7 in the future. Obviously, prices for similar Hi-Def camcorders have dropped considerably since I purchased this almost a year ago and that makes them even more attractive. This is a good camcorder for the price-point, but just be aware of what you're paying for.

5Great for Indoor and ZoomSep 06, 2009
I did a lot of research before purchasing this particular videocam. Our goal was to film diving: 1) indoors (under harsh lighting) and 2) from a distance (from the bleachers past the width of an olympic pool). The extent of the zoom and quality of the video are excellent. We can't speak to the audio because we don't use it.

This videocam meets our needs well. And we haven't even exercised the videocam settings yet. The only drawback to this videocam is the software that accompanies it (as others have mentioned). It can't see the files that it downloads onto our laptop. We change the file extensions from .MOD to .MPG and import the files into Windows Movie Maker.
