After reading some reviews of the elf that comes with the Elf on the Shelf book (The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition with Blue Eyed North Pole Pixie-Elf) saying that he was "creepy looking, reminded them of Chucky dolls, scared some kids, etc.," I decided that instead of buying the very small (not so huggable) elf that comes with the book set for $29.95 (or more) to buy this larger 19" "little brother" (The Elf on the Shelf: Plushee Pals 19" Elf Light Skin) soft elf for $12.50, as well as the largest 32" "big brother" (The Elf on the Shelf: Plushee Pals 32" Elf Light Skin) soft elf for $23.95. I am SO happy that I did. They are both so SOFT and CUTE ... not creepy in ANY way. My kids love them. So, instead of paying for and reading the book, we watched the Elf on the Shelf short video clip on the internet. These particular PLUSHEE 19" and 32" elves are not the "untouchable" elves (like the one that comes in the book set), which is good since my kids like to hug them and carry them around the house so the elves can "watch" them being good. :) They even asked if Santa might let them stay in our home with our family after Christmas is over. So, I think that Santa is going to allow us to permanently adopt the two brother elves so that they can be a part of our family all year. Hopefully, that will translate into good/better behavior all year round. (I guess it is probably a good thing that I didn't buy the book, since I'm doing all those things "not allowed" in the book ... letting the kids hold the elf, allowing the kids to keep the elf beyond Christmas.) BTW, I did have some friends that bought the elf in the box set and they said that they personally did not find the elf creepy, but they could see how some people might.

In the days running up to Christmas, this little Elf was enchanting. My granddaughter would get up each morning, go immediately to the place where she left the Elf the night before, then search the house for him 'til she found him (he was never where she'd left him). The Elf's assignment was to report each night to Santa on how my granddaughter had behaved that day. The reports must have been very good based on all the wonderful gifts she received from Santa.

My kids love the elf on the shelf. They would wake up every morning to see where he had moved to next. He is soft and cuddly and doesn't look scary.

At my kids' request I bought them this "elf on the shelf". However it comes with a label my 5 year old immediately started reading. "This is not the Elf on the Shelf..." it starts, resulting in a very disappointed child. So, if you want the Elf on the Shelf don't buy this product, or else be sure to remove the label.
